MUN Middle East 2025
From May 15 to 17, 2025, the Lycée Français International de Bahrain had the honor of organizing and hosting the 2025 edition of the Model United Nations – Middle East (MUN MO). This large gathering brought together students from several schools in the region around a universal and urgent theme: the fight against hunger in the world.
A memorable and inspiring opening ceremony
The opening ceremony was held on May 15 in the reception hall of the Downtown Rotana in Manama, in the presence of a large audience of students, parents, educators and diplomatic dignitaries.
The evening began with a solemn performance of the national anthems of the Kingdom of Bahrain and France, creating an atmosphere that was both respectful and supportive.
The President of the MUN 2025, Meryame Jomaa, then opened the ceremony with a strong speech, highlighting the essential role of youth and the power of words in a world in search of sustainable solutions. She called for a sincere and active commitment to the fight against hunger, the central theme of this edition.
The Principal of the French International School of Bahrain recalled the educational role of the MUN, praising the commitment and rigor of the students. He highlighted this simulation as a powerful lever for learning diplomacy, listening and cooperation.
Then, H.E. Mr. Éric Giraud-Telme, Ambassador of France to Bahrain, shared a meaningful diplomatic perspective: « Dialogue is the foundation of peace. What you experience here is not a game: it is a training in world citizenship. »
The UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, Mr. Khaled El Mekwad, took the floor to place the event in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He recalled that the eradication of hunger (SDG 2) is an urgent fight that requires innovative ideas, a collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment – all qualities that this new generation embodies with force.
Finally, Mr. Nasser Al Belooshi, Counsellor for Political and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, spoke about his diplomatic experience and stressed the importance of international relations in building a more equitable world. He encouraged young people to become responsible and informed actors.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of the MUN presidents of each participating school, then with a closing word by Meryame Jomaa, who warmly thanked the sponsors, the teaching teams and all the students for their exemplary commitment.
Three days of passionate and constructive debates
The first day was marked by the installation of the five commissions, the start of debates and the presentation of the diplomatic positions of each delegation. The energy was palpable: the exchanges were both structured and spontaneous, driven by a common desire to bring out concrete solutions.
