As part of the art and power axis in Spanish class, the final year students studied “el muralismo”. Muralism is an artistic movement that appeared in Mexico from 1920. The artists (Diego Rivera, Jos\u00e9 Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros…) who participated in this movement, tried to translate through painting, their vision of the national identity, the political, economic and social situation of Mexico. Most of the works were made on the walls of public buildings. The educational goal of muralism was to spread part of Mexican culture and life to a wide audience. Muralism is still in force and has spread to other Latin American countries, the United States… This public art is no longer confined to public buildings but is found in the walls of the city, because it does not belong to anyone and everyone must be able to have access to it. Inspired by the causes defended by the muralists, the final year students decided to paint two murals at the entrance of the high school in order to promote environmental protection and tolerance, two essential subjects for the French secular mission.<\/p>\n

The final year students thank the principal, Mrs. Leget for having made the project possible and the parents’ committee for its financial participation.<\/p>\n
